Frej Wichmann is based in Gothenburg and works across the borders of crafts and design. Everything the designer makes is crafted by hand. Concerned with sustainability.
Through interactive functions, he plays with the relationship between user and object. His work often emanates from production processes, where old production methods give birth to new opportunities.
The idea of the Bubble Cabinet is that it built using very few instruments: a lathe that is driven by a bicycle, a plastic bag shredder and a rope-making machine. It can be produced in places without electricity and is a way to inspire local craftsmen, as well as a way of managing waste. Apart from the obvious environmental benefits this could inspire small communities and local craftsmen to make use of the readily available materials that surround them.
