Meet the Joris Brouwers and Nicky Zwaan, two urban pioneers, who turned their thoughts into reality. Talented couple took an opportunity to locate their house in IJburg, one of Amsterdam’s youngest neighborhoods from the scratch: they designed, built and furnished their house themselves.
The duo wanted to make their home sustainable: A pair of geo-thermal wells provide hot water for the home and natural clay coats the walls, helping to regulate the humidity. It’s not surprising that the couple personally identifies with the house, having the fairly unique opportunity to live in a space they themselves conceived of and built.
