How to combine all ideas of your dream house into one building? Anyhow! It’s easier to build a village!
The construction of a new village took place in Alphington, Australia. Everything started after Mum, dad and twin boys decided to have a home “for community, art and nature to come together”.
Andrew Maynard Architects accepted this challange with the codename – Tower House. They renovated the original house, which now belongs to happy 8 years old twin sons. After they become an adults and decide to leave the house, the residence will be easily separated into zones with distrinct entries. Perfect long-term house!
Architects also built new parts of the house – a studio, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and dining room. The openings and windows were designed to optimize passive solar gain in a bid to reduce the need for mechanical heating and cooling. Plus, white roofs drastically reduce urban heat sink and heat transfer internally. The need for air-conditioning is reduced via carefully-thought windows which offer natural ventilation.
Another nice touch for the home is the front yard used as communal vegetable patch. No fences, best conditions for exchanging new stories in, for instance, onion bed.
